* however, each call, even local calls, are billed.

Access by Cable:

Telefonica offers a service which provides cable TV, cable Internet and cable Telephones.  Prices vary depending on number of channels, internet speed and number of phones lines desired.

There are a half dozen more Internet providers within El Salvador - if you have better luck with them that with the above two mentions, please contact us with your review!

With Cellular phones.....

There are at least four Cellular providers in El Salvador which are easily found at any of the Malls or larger shopping centers.  Not a lot of comparative info is out there, (your recommendations are most welcome) but the rumor is that Personal has the best rates (but poor coverage) while Telemovil has great coverage (throughout CA).

On Your Own in El Salvador is the most thorough travel guide to El Salvador, edited by long term Salvador dwellers Hank and Bea Weiss.  Unfortunately the second printing is now out of print.

These other books on Central American contain a section on El Salvador.

Note:  The Lonely Planet also has a very dated web page dedicated to El Salvador, with very dated travel information.  If you have visited El Salvador or hope to visit El Salvador, please ask them to bring their page up to the current century.  Then go buy a copy of  On Your Own.

To their credit, the LP does run a somewhat helpful  'usenet' style bulleting board called the Thorn Tree where travel questions may be read and posted.

We welcome your comments on these travel guides in regards to their helpfulness and any further recommendations for reading.
