The Union Church of San Salvador traces its beginning to
1942 when Earl and Inez Terzian, a couple form the United States, provided
Sunday school to their children at home. Soon, other families asked to join
them and interest developed in establishing an English-speaking congregation.
The first worship service was held on July 7, 1946.
In 1948, this fellowship took the name Community Church
of San Salvador and moved its worship to the Hotel Astoria. The Wednesday
Flea Market, which exists to this day in Loma Linda, was begun as a means of
income during the years at this location.
In 1974, work began on the Union Church of San Salvador’s
permanent home in Colonia La Mascota. The first service was held there on May
11, 1975.
From the time of its organization to the present, thousands
of people from all over the world have been a part of the Union Church’s
community of faith. The UCSS has been served by 20 Pastors from a variety of
denominations and continues its interdenominational English-speaking worship,
fellowship and ministry through the faithful support of its friends and
members.
While the UCSS remains an independent congregation, it is
affiliated with the Network
of International Congregations which
serves to nurture the existence of International congregations and facilitate
the process of finding Pastors to serve them.
