Our Goal is to improve the lives of the rural poor through a twofold strategy; direct assistance to enterprises, farmer organizations and financial intermediaries and through analysis and dialogue to improve policy environment. The project will support the diversification of agricultural production into high-value, labor intensive non-traditional crops and promote non-agricultural income opportunities through rural enterprises. Since 1982 Agros International has helped families in Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Chiapas, Mexico build self-sustaining and thriving communities. Agros’ unique approach, based on empowerment through land loans and training, has helped thousands of Central American and Mexican families learn to dream again. For these families and villages, life will never be the same. Through Agros’ time-tested, practical assistance, they have gained the land and skills to build a better future.
Children
Ambassadors for Children is a US based, not-for-profit,
charitable organization that provides meaningful travel opportunities, or
Voluntourism trips & travel packages, to help children in need around the
world. Ambassadors for Children partners with orphanages, schools,
at-risk youth programs, and international humanitarian organizations to provide
basic necessities, medical and dental care, educational support, and
constructive cognitive and social development for disadvantaged, abused, and
abandoned children. AFC seeks to better the lives of children who live,
study, and play in impoverished communities, while offering volunteers a
life-changing experience. Ambassadors for Children trips provide hands-on
interaction with disadvantaged children, balanced by opportunities for
sightseeing and experiencing the culture of the destination.
HIS is an independent, non-profit 501(c)3 interdenominational evangelical mission committed to advancing the gospel in El Salvador through literature distribution, an orphanage, a Christian School, a program for Focus on the Family in public schools, a church, and an outreach to gang members. Their mission is to invest in young lives by instilling Christian values and hope for a brighter future than what they had known before. The expectation is that these young people will be the agents of change for their nation as they grow up. For example, children who came into their program from very humble circumstances are now attending the Evangelical University to become professionals, on scholarships provided by HIS.
The Love Link was born out of the desire to give love, protection, and food to malnourished children in El Salvador. In El Salvador the incidence of infant malnutrition (children under five years of age) in 1990 was 50% (430,500 children). Of this number 15.2% (132,700 children) suffer from moderate and severe malnutrition (according to weight and age). Malnutrition primarily affects infants between 6 and 36 months of age (65.8% of the malnourished). There has not been a notable improvement in these figures in recent years. This implies that a large part of the pediatric population is at a great risk of contracting disease and dying if they do not receive nutritional intervention in time to permit their recuperation. They must regain not only their state of health and nutrition but also their potential for growth and development.
The
vision of My Father's House is to follow our Lord Jesus Christ in establishing
permanent homes for the street/abandoned children of San Salvador, providing a
place where they have the opportunity to live and grow in a loving Christian
atmosphere, that is clean, safe and healthy. Created by the United Nations General Assembly in 1946 to help children after World War II in Europe, UNICEF was first known as the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund. In 1953, UNICEF became a permanent part of the United Nations system, its task being to help children living in poverty in developing countries. Its name was shortened to the United Nations Children's Fund, but it retained the acronym "UNICEF," by which it is known to this day. UNICEF helps children get the care and stimulation they need in the early years of life and encourages families to educate girls as well as boys. It strives to reduce childhood death and illness and to protect children in the midst of war and natural disaster. UNICEF supports young people, wherever they are, in making informed decisions about their own lives, and strives to build a world in which all children live in dignity and security. Working with national governments, NGOs (non-governmental organizations), other United Nations agencies and private-sector partners, UNICEF protects children and their rights by providing services and supplies and by helping shape policy agendas and budgets in the best interests of children.
Community
To realize this mission ENLACE
Homies Unidos was created in 1996 in El Salvador by rival gang members who came together to find a better and safer life without violence. The organization is dedicated to providing educational and employment opportunities for young men and women (ages 8-35, although a majority are under the age of 24), so that they can find ways out of their violent lifestyle.
Since 1946, the Union Church of San Salvador has provided ministry and ministry opportunities to the local Salvadoran and Expatriate communities of San Salvador. In addition to Sunday school, bible studies, fellowship groups, and worship for friends and members of the congregation, the Union Church enjoys a 10 year+ relationship with the local Mascota community, providing weekly "kids club" for local children ages 5-12 and full scholarship support for 13+ high school and college students.
USAID requests funds for the four Strategic Objective programs within of economic growth and education, democracy and governance, health, and water and environment. In response to the massive earthquakes, USAID recently established a Special Objective program for a comprehensive reconstruction effort. The overall goal of USAID's program remains rural poverty reduction, and the primary focus is on poor women, youth, and children residing in rural areas. USAID is helping to get the rural sector back on its feet through microfinance, marketing, and rural infrastructure programs, in addition to increasing access to quality early childhood education in rural areas. USAID is also fostering continued democratic development by reinforcing the rule of law, and promoting active citizen participation and representation in government. USAID programs contribute to improving primary health care and reducing child mortality, strengthening and expanding reproductive health and family planning, and helping control HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and dengue. USAID is also increasing access of rural residents to safe water via improving watershed management and expanding water distribution systems.
Today, Peace Corps Volunteers coordinate with local municipalities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and community groups to develop better water systems, make health and sanitation improvements, provide environmental education, and assist municipal development projects. In the aftermath of the earthquakes, Volunteers have played a key role in providing damage assessments of their sites, which have assisted the government and local NGOs in facilitating the distribution of resources to the most affected communities.
Health
Living Water El Salvador drills clean, deep water wells that are filtered by gravel and completely sealed to stop all contaminants entering from ground level. These wells have stood up to the massive earthquakes of 2001 and cannot be contaminated by flood waters. Usually, a hand pump is installed, but mechanical pumps and storage tanks with distribution systems have also been employed. One health promoter in Usulatan noted that the number of cases of diarrhea that he witnessed each month dropped from 35 to under 5 after the installation of an LWES well.
CARE El Salvador was established in 1956, and over the next two decades implemented a number of development projects. Due to improving security conditions, CARE decided to resume its programs in El Salvador in 1993. Rural water supply and sanitation construction and rehabilitation, primary health care, agricultural development and community organization are current priority programming areas for CARE El Salvador.
Only one of five families in rural areas of El Salvador has access to safe water and adequate sanitation facilities. Far too often, this leads to an unacceptable level of disease. In fact, water-related diseases are the major killer of infants and the primary cause of illness in adults worldwide. Cases of water-related illnesses, such as cholera, hepatitis and dysentery, have skyrocketed in many areas of El Salvador. In the mid-1980's El Salvador had the Western Hemisphere's highest rate of malnourishment. Malnutrition remains a major health issue today, particularly in rural areas. Project Concern water and sanitation programs have brought clean water and crucial health education to more than 48,000 people in rural communities in central El Salvador.

Relief
Catholic Relief Services' work follows the principles of Catholic social teaching by improving the quality of life and promoting human dignity among vulnerable and marginalized communities in El Salvador. The goal of the agency's work is to promote social justice by increasing each community's access to food and health services and to improve basic civil, legal and human rights. CRS is also addressing the populations' vulnerability to natural disasters through its emergency response to El Salvador's recent earthquakes and drought.
